How often to post, and what happens when you stop

Everyone is told to post daily. Almost no founder sustains it, and the attempt produces a familiar pattern: three weeks of enthusiasm, a gap, some guilt, then silence.
The pattern does more damage than posting less would have.
Why the gap costs more than the frequency
An audience does not really track how often you post. What they track, mostly unconsciously, is whether you are still there. Three months of nothing resets you to a stranger, and the next post has to do the work of reintroducing you.
So the question is not "what is optimal", it is "what can I still be doing in six months on a bad week". For most founders running a company at the same time, that is once a week. Sometimes once a fortnight. Rarely daily.
Pick the floor, not the ceiling
Decide the minimum you will hit in your worst week, and treat that as the commitment. Anything above it is a bonus, not a new standard you now have to defend.
Founders who set the bar at their best week always fail, because they set it during a good week and the bad ones arrive anyway.
Batch, but do not schedule blind
Write three at a time when you are in the mood. That is the only realistic way this survives a busy month.
But leave the last one unscheduled. Things happen, and a post written a fortnight ago that lands on the wrong day reads like a robot, which undoes the point of showing up at all.
What to do when you have nothing to say
You do not need an idea. You need a thing that happened. Something a customer said, a number that surprised you, something you changed your mind about. "We assumed X, we were wrong, here is what actually happened" is always available and always more interesting than advice.
If there is genuinely nothing, skip it. One skipped week is invisible. One forced, empty post is a small negative that people remember.
If you have already stopped
Do not write the apology post. Nobody noticed in the way you think they did, and opening with three months of guilt makes the reader responsible for your feelings.
Just post. Start again at the frequency you can hold, not the one you feel you owe.
